Darkfield condenser can be oil or dry
For the highest possible limits of nanoparticle detection the light source must be rich in uv and blue wavelengths. A Xenon light source provides the intense blue light required for maximum S/N ratio.  Xenon provides over 10X the uv/blue wavelengths than halogen
The light source can be likened to fuel.  Blue intensity to octane  Darkfield & spectrometer optics to the engine
